Wide Open Bar and Grill is a greasy yet classy joint, located on 15th St and 4th Ave. in Moline. If you're like me, this means nothing to you until someone says, 'oh that is near Lagomarcino's.' It used to be known as Jack's Place until late 2008 when it was sold to the new owner. Now it's a biker bar and grill with two-wheel Tuesdays.
Downtown Moline apparently got hit with a bomb, as the whole street is torn up, but don't let that disuade you from visiting the businesses in the area.
The architecture of the building is very cool because it is located in the historic district. The building was constructed in 1897. In 1911 it became a bank and was covered with the white tiles seen above.
We got a behind the scenes tour with one of the cooks, Swank.
Typical for a bar, burgers are their specialty, so Swank whipped up a doozy for Richie. They offer a variety of sauces that really add a punch to their burgers. They decided on the Treadburner burger. It's a scorcher. It's a half pound patty, pepperjack and provolone cheeses, pickled jalapenos, fresh jalapenos, banana peppers, fried onions, and chipotle mayo. I imagine it leaves tread marks from your tongue to your intestines.
Nice buns Swank
And the artist puts his finishing touches on the masterpiece.
If the old saying, "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" is true, then Swank and Richie will soon be a happily married couple.
It looks like a deadly weapon.. and apparently it almost was. But both boys survived with minor stomach injuries.
If you're in a hurry and don't have an hour to kill in the restroom, you might want to try a Hog Burger with grilled ham and sauteed mushrooms, or maybe the Red Eye- with a fried egg and bacon. Biker or not, check it out sometime for deliciously greasy bar food.
